Petrified Forest, Meteor Crater, Painted Desert Daytripper

Pick up from your stay at 7:30AM. Head up towards Petrified Forest National Park which is 60 miles east of Flagstaff. The Petrified Forest formed from tall trees called conifers that grew over 200 million years ago near waterways. During floods, water forced the trees to be pulled up from the ground. They were deprived from oxygen during the great eruption of the volcanic mountain range in Flagstaff. Over time, the wood from the trees became petrified. Explore the awe inspiring canvas that is the Painted Desert traveling down the historic old Route 66 where we’ll have lunch and then drive down the road where we’ll be standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona. Then proceed to Meteor Crater where we we’ll witness a site where 50,000 years ago a giant meteor hit earth and landed in Winslow, Arizona and caused a hole big enough to house 20 football stadiums.
